Teucrium hircanicum 'Purple Tails' is a very hardy perennial that handles most soil conditions so long as they are well draining. It produces long, deep purple/magenta flower spikes that resemble tails during summer. The flowers are similar to those of Veronicas. It is a perfect architectural feature for meadow and cottage gardens. Cut back after flowering to keep compact. The flowers bring in beneficial insects and make wonderful cut flowers. Plants grow to 60cm and can be divided in spring. Hardy to -10C.
Excellent cut and dried flower.
Sow seeds in autumn but only lightly cover with potting mix as the seeds need light to germinate. Keep damp but not wet. Seeds germinate at approx 20C. Grow seedlings to approx 10cm, then transfer into the garden.
