A rounded perennial with feathery silver foliage that keeps its shape for several years with white daisy flowers in spring. In the search for silver foliage plants this is one that should not be overlooked. An open and dry, sunny position with well drained soil are preferred. Silver Lace can be trimmed to a pretty hedge, planted amongst other low shrubs and perennials for a silver highlight or used as a pot specimen. Cut back by 40% after flowering. Use a little slow release organic type fertiliser each spring to improve growth a little. In the heat of summer give an occasional deep watering but do not over water in cooler months. Moderate frost. Height 1m.
Excellent filler for floral arrangements. Harvest when stems are mature and firm. Foliage is especially wilt prone, so harvest during the coolest part of the day. Immediately after harvest, dip the bottom few centimeters of the stems in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds then place into cool water. Vase life 7 to 10 days. Foliage can also be dried.
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost or directly outside after frost danger has passed. Seeds can be slow; bottom-watering is recommended. Seeds will germinate with temperatures are around 20C. If grown in pots. grow to the plant is 10cm in height, harden off and transplant into the garden. Seedlings do not look silver when they are very young but color up as they mature. 16 weeks sowing to flowering.
