Watsonia thrive in full sun positions that are well drained. This variety grows to 1m and forms nice clumps. These are hardy plants and are easy to grow. They look impressive as border plants or dotted amongst shrubs.

During Spring slender reddish flowering stems appear from the attractive sword like foliage. Flowers last for many weeks attracting beneficial insects to them. In late summer to autumn the plant starts to die of and goes into dormancy. I remove the old leaves and tidy up.

Excellent cut flower.

Watsonia seeds are best sown in pots during autumn in well-drained, sandy compost, lightly covered with grit. Soak seeds overnight to enhance germination, which typically occurs within 3–4 weeks at 22C. Grow plants in their pots for the first year at least before transplanting into the garden. Plants will bloom in their second or third year.

Watsonia also known as Bugle Lily.
