Wanting to add texture and architectural interest to your garden, then look no further.
Echinops bannaticus ‘Taplow Blue’ is the best of the taller globe flowers with spherical flower heads up to 7cm in diameter. These steel-blue buds open into large balls of powdery mauve-blue when in full flower. It also features bold divided foliage and stiff vertical stems. Cut back to the ground in summer when the first flowers are finished and you will be rewarded by another display in autumn. Height 150cm
It requires full sun and free-draining soil. Drought and frost tolerant once established. Being drought tolerant once established it is ideal for dry gardens.
Excellent cut flower and dried with a long vase life.
Seeds must be fresh, so autumn sowing only. This also allows for cold stratification. Sow seeds in pots and cover lightly with soil as seeds need light to germinate. Water and keep damp. Seeds will germinate when temperatures are around 20C. Grow on in pots until plants are around 10cm high. Harden off and transplant into the garden. Don't let plants get to big before transplanting as they have tap roots. Seeds will germinate over a period of time so be patient and don't toss the soil away too early.
