Silene viscaria (Lychnis viscaria) German Catchfly

Silene viscaria (Lychnis viscaria) German Catchfly has masses of beautiful spikes of soft pink star-shaped flowers rising above the foliage from late spring to early summer, which are most effective when planted in groupings. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its ferny leaves remain light green in color throughout the season. This short lived perennial (but will self seed) forms a slowly spreading clump that grows to around 30cm to 50cm. These plants require full sun and moist conditions, do not allow them to dry out.

Sow seeds in autumn but only lightly cover with potting mix as the seeds need light to germinate. Keep damp but not wet. Seeds germinate at approx 20C. Grow seedlings to approx 10cm, then transfer into the garden.

Excellent cut flower. Vase life of 10 to 15 days.
