Shasta Daisy (Leucanthemum × superbum)

No cottage garden is complete without a daisy.
No cottage garden is complete without a daisy.

This is your classic daisy. It is a herbaceous perennial plant with the classic daisy appearance of white petals around a yellow centre. A robust, clump-forming plant with thick, narrow, dark green leaves. Flowers appears from early summer to autumn. Flowers are large, around 10cm across on sturdy stems. Flowers have a long vase life which makes this an excellent plant for cut flowers.

These are hardy plants and easy to grow. Their only requirements are full sun and well drained soil. My plants get to around 2m in height, so support is required.

When sowing, remember these seeds need light to germinate (don't cover seeds). Due to the size of the seeds, I recommend sowing seeds in pots. Keep damp, not wet. Seeds will germinate when temperatures are around 20cm. Grow plants to 10cm in height, harden off and plant out.
