Willow Leafed Loosestrife with its elegant tapering spires of small pure white flowers growing in my bog garden.

This is a spreading, herbaceous perennial forming a clump of upright stems clad in narrow, grey-green leaves. Small, long-lasting starry white flowers in long, slender terminal racemes appear in early summer, followed by brown seedheads for winter interest.

Grow Lysimachia ephemerum where it receives morning sun and afternoon shade. Make sure that the plant does not dry out. An excellent back of the border perennial and suitable for the edge of ponds and bog gardens. Height in flower 1.2m.

It is not invasive, unlike other species of Lysimachia.

Excellent cut flower. It is even grown commercially for florists.

Seeds must have a cold spell to break dormancy. If you don't live in a cold enough area, place

seeds in the fridge in a water tight container for 6 weeks before sowing. Sow seeds on the surface of the soil and sprinkle with a fine layer of soil. Water and keep damp but not wet. Seeds will germinate when temperatures are around 20C. Grow plant to around 10cm, harden off and transplant into the garden.
