Crocosmias are perennial flowering plants and members of the iris family. As native plants of South Africa, crocosmias thrive in dry, temperate climates. Plants are grown from corms or seeds. These are easy to grow and low maintenance plants. Grow in full sun and well draining soil. Mulch around the base of the plant. Avoid over watering as plants may rot. Fertiliser is not recommended for crocosmia plants. Fertilizing could damage your crocosmia flowers by causing foliage overgrowth. Late summer flowers are a magnet for pollinators. Height 1.5m.

'Lucifer' produces decorative clumps of erect pleated leaves and brilliant wands of fiery scarlet red tubular flowers which bloom for 5-8 weeks.

The vibrant, fiery red flowers are excellent in both fresh and, later in the season, as dried seed heads. Cut when the first few flowers on the stem have opened for the longest vase life. Vase life up to 14 days.

Seeds must be fresh, so autumn sowing only. This also allows for cold stratification. Sow seeds in pots barely over the seeds with soil. Water and keep damp. Seeds will germinate when temperatures are around 20C. Grow on in pots until plants are around 15cm high. Harden off and transplant into the garden. It takes 2 to 3 years for plants to flower.

Also known as also known as coppertips and montbretia.
