I plant these seeds in autumn. The plants handle our Tasmanian winters with ease. By the time they are finished, your spring peas are ready. Peas aren't as sweet as other varieties but still very yummy with a slight nutty flavour. However, these peas can be dried and used in soups etc. You can also pick younger pods and use them like you would snow peas. Leaves are ideal for use in salads. You can expect around 280g yield per plant. This is a tall, vigorous climber that requires support. It will reach up to 1.5–2 m in height.

Purple Podded Peas are a 16th century heirloom, also called ‘Capucijner'. They are stunning in flower and their purple pods are a feature.

When to plant - Note you want your crop to be completed flowering by the time temperatures are around 25C.
